The ask
Assess current IT capabilities and the organizational model, then develop an IT strategic plan aligned to the agency’s newly developed five-year business strategy.
Our approach
- Held executive visioning sessions with business and technology leadership to capture the desired future business objectives, and aligned them to the strategic IT decisions on platforms and hosting that had already been made.
- Captured current-state application, integration, data and physical architectures.
The outcome
A future-state IT architecture and an associated roadmap tied directly to the business strategy. Key elements included:
- Application rationalization reducing the application footprint from 35 to 5.
- Single Sign-On and Portal, consolidating 10 disparate authentication and identity management solutions into 1.
- IT governance delineating roles and responsibilities between the agency, its executive office, and the state’s central IT services office.
Why it matters
A roadmap that ignores decisions already made is a roadmap nobody follows. Starting from the platform and hosting choices the agency had already committed to is what made this plan executable rather than aspirational.
